Zoro’s Creative Team
Building AI Principles for Creatives
Why did I facilitate a workshop building AI principles with my multidisciplinary creative team at Zoro?
Because the conversation around AI kept reducing design, copy, and brand value to efficiency: “How many hours of AI went into this?” or “Couldn’t AI just recreate it?”
Creative work may be measured against performance and data, but it’s ultimately valued for judgment, craft, and taste. AI can accelerate the process, but the quality of the output still depends on the judgment, intent, and standards behind it.
The outcome: A shared set of principles that clarified how Creative would use AI and what partners could expect from us, ensuring our workflows evolved intentionally and with clear standards.
Our belief
AI is a creative tool that expands what people can accomplish. It does not replace creativity, judgment, or accountability.
Our commitment
We use AI to elevate human creativity, not replace it, so that we can deliver smarter, faster, and more impactful work while protecting Zoro's integrity and customer trust.
Our rules
Human creativity leads. AI supports ideas. Humans define strategy, make decisions, and own the final work.
Outcomes matter more than methods. We measure success by the quality, effectiveness, and business impact of our work, not by how much AI was used.
AI should elevate craft. We use AI to reduce repetitive work, explore possibilities, and accelerate execution without compromising quality.
Accountability always remains human. Every deliverable reflects the judgment and responsibility of the Creative Services team.
Trust is non-negotiable. We protect Zoro's brand, customers, and our integrity through thoughtful, ethical, and responsible use of AI.
Team principles
We believe AI should expand creativity, elevate craftsmanship, and help us deliver better experiences for our customers.
We use AI to amplify human creativity, accelerate execution, and remove repetitive work so we can focus on strategy, storytelling, and innovation.
AI is a creative tool, not a creative replacement. It helps us explore possibilities, but it does not replace human judgment. We use AI to inform our work, while people remain responsible for the decisions that shape it.
Every creative decision, regardless of how it is produced, reflects our judgment and accountability. We own the quality, originality, accuracy, and integrity of every deliverable.
We embrace experimentation because better ideas come from exploring more possibilities. AI enables us to iterate faster, challenge assumptions, and spend more time refining work that creates meaningful business impact.
We will never sacrifice customer trust, brand integrity, or creative excellence for the sake of speed or automation. If AI helps us move faster, it must also help us produce work that is thoughtful, authentic, and worthy of customer confidence.
We do not measure creativity by the percentage of AI used. We measure it by the quality of our thinking, the strength of our craft, and the trust we earn with our customers. AI helps us inform our work, elevate our creativity, and accelerate our execution, but our greatest value will always be the human judgment, curiosity, and imagination that no tool can replace.
